Obituary of Irene Petty

Irene Petty, 91, of Zion, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Winthrop Harbor at her son and daughter-in-laws home. Irene was born October 20, 1920 in Itawamba County, MS and has resided in Zion for 65 years. She attended High School in Itawamba County and while there enjoyed playing basketball. She retired in 1985 from Fansteel in North Chicago. Irene was an avid gardener at her home in Zion. Survivors include her son James (Susan) Petty of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren Nanette (Jason) Bruch and Andrew (Amanda) Petty; four great-grandchildren Jadon, Kadon, and Aneliese Bruch and Archer James Petty; numerous nieces and nephews including nephew Robert (Barbara) Sandretto of Winthrop Harbor who tirelessly assisted Irene; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William T. Petty; siblings Gilbert Hall, Frank Hall, and Maxine Sandretto; her parents Columbus and Pearl Hall; and two infant granddaughters Carol and Christine Petty. Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion with Chaplain Del Shinabarger of Vitas Hospice officiating. Memorial donations to either Safe Harbor Animal Shelter of Kenosha, WI, or charity of your choice, has been suggested. The family would like to thank the Vitas Hospice staff for their care and compassion.
