Obituary of Donald McCloskey
Donald Marvin McCloskey, AVCM, (AW) USNAVY, (Ret). 75, of Zion, Illinois passed away on March 25, 2024 in Waukegan, Illinois.
Donald was born on October 4, 1948 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Marvin and Violet (Taylor) McCloskey. Don Married his wife of 33 years, Wendy Vergonet on October 20, 1990 in Waukegan, Illinois. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business from Northwoods University.
Donald enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1966 and retired on June 30, 1992. Donald was in active duty for 26+ years. He served in a variety of Commands in his almost 25-year Naval career. These included Naval Air Station (NAS) Seattle, Nas New York- VA-831; Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC) Memphis; NAS Cecil Field; Naval Air Reserve Intermediate Maintenance Depots Alameda, and Whidbey Island; NAS Glenview-VP-90; Commander Naval Air Reserve Forces, NOLA. He returned to NAS Glenview for his final tour as the Commander Master Chief for both VP-90, and the Naval Air Station. He also worked for Duro-Chrome Industries in Wauconda, Illinois.
Donald was a member of American Legion Zion-Benton Post #865, where he was past commander; Chicago wood turners, where he made and taught how to produce wood pens. He was a Boy Scout Master, and Eagle Scout himself and throughout his travels while on active duty in the US Navy, still assisted.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy; children, George A. Davis, Jeffery L. Buldak, Timothy L. Buldak; grandchildren Jessica Ullrich, Jacqueline Davis, Jasmine Davis, Dakota Bishir, Makayla Davis, Elizabeth Buldak-Anderson, Samantha Buldak, Andrew Buldak, Christopher Buldak, Lawarence M. Buldak, Edwardo Buldak; three great-grandchildren; sister Shelia McCloskey- Skillingstead; many cousins, and three nieces.
Donald is preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth M. Buldak; his parents; grandparents Harry and Alice Taylor; Vern McCloskey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Illinois 60099.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wounded Warriors Project, American Legion Zion-Benton Post #865, or Disabled Veterans National Foundation.
