Obituary of Jean Hoffman Bowie
Jean Hoffman Bowie, 95, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2023.
Jean was born on August 30, 1927, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the youngest of five children born to the late Mary and Walter G Hoffman. While attending God’s Bible school in Cincinnati Ohio she met and later married the love of her life Everett Y Bowie. They were married 52 years before he went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2002. She spent 38 meaningful years as an elementary school teacher. Her impact on many of her students’ lives remains fruitful. She often would read Bible stories and pray with them before lunch. She loved, prayed, and supported foreign missionaries around the world for 75 years because of her deep in abiding love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Surviving are her daughters, Ruth (Matt) Smiley, and Marti (Bob) Tackett; five grandchildren, Annie Tackett, Shelly (Douglas) Venable, Janelle (Geno) Collins, David (Courtney) Smiley, and Jonathan Smiley; two great grandchildren, Declan, and Maximus Smiley; three loving nieces, Alice Belmont, Joene Ward, and Joyce Heigel; four foster sons, Jim Hogan, John Hogan, Brian Evans, and Chad Evans.
Mrs. Bowie was predeceased and welcomed home by, four siblings, Georgia (Joe) Lyons, Beauty Love (Charlie) Stansbury, Walter Guy (Mary) Hoffman, and Betty Jane Hoffman.
The first funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Pelham Road Christian Fellowship, Greenville, SC conducted by Pastor Tim Yale.
Visitation will be held 11:00 am- 12:30 pm Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the church.
The second funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday Feburary 11, 2023 at Lakeview Church, 1821 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
