Obituary of Ruth Gantar
Ruth A. Gantar (nee Bereiter),90, someone you should have known, passed from this temporary life to everlasting life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at home on Friday, October 20, 2006, with members of her family at her side.
Ruth was born October 2, 1916 in Zion, IL, to William and Elsie Bereiter. She shared many fascinating stories about old Zion with her family over the years. Ruth married Anthony Gantar on June 1, 1941, in Hannibal, MO, and lived in Waukegan. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Waukegan and also later attended Gurnee Community Church. Ruth loved animals, flowers, fishing and gardening and was an avid reader. Family game nights and any family gatherings were a special joy to her.
She is survived by her children, Sherril (Bruce) Fulkerson, Rickard B. (Kathleen) Gantar, and Ronald D. (Karen) Gantar; nine grandchildren; 12-1/2 great-grandchildren; sister, Nora Aylward of Riverside, CA; and her loving care giver, Ola who became a dear member of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Anthony Gantar in 2004; brothers, James in 1998, Paul in 1996, Chuck in 1963; a sister, Phyllis in 1930; father William in 1976 and mother Elsie in 1951.
A Visitation was held on Sunday, October 22, at Congdon Funeral Home in Zion, with the Rev. Joseph Wilcox presiding at a Memorial Service. Interment was private for the family.
