Obituary of Dorothy Schnider
Dorothy Faye Schnider was born February 6, 1941, in Dennis, Mississippi, to Olen and Cletter Mae Greene. She died at home on April 6, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy (Dot) spent her youth in Belmont, Mississippi, and Arkansas before the family moved to Zion, Illinois, where she attended Central Jr. High and Zion Benton High School. She met her lifelong sweetheart John (Bud) Schnider, Sr., at the Zion Roller Rink, and on December 7, 1957, they married, in Fulton, Mississippi. They lived in Zion before moving to Winthrop Harbor, where they built a home and have lived for 53 years. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business, Schnider Home Builders. After retiring, she and Bud traveled extensively in their ’34 Ford to car shows and on vacation with dear friends Dwayne and Gloris Wickersheim, and brother Bob Greene and his wife, Gerry. She loved gardening and tending to her plants and flowers and was happiest when she could spend a sunny day outside working in her flower beds. She loved doing puzzles and baking. Her apple pies were a family favorite. She was the heart of a large extended family, where her home was always welcome to all. She especially adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Dot is survived by her husband of 64 years; children, John (Debra) Schnider, of Winthrop Harbor, IL; Robin (Joe Arellano) Schnider, of Pleasant Prairie, WI; granddaughter Ashley Arellano; and great-grandchildren Skylar and Elias. In addition, she is survived by sister-in-law’s, Gerry Greene of Kenosha, WI; Marlyce Schnider of Rice Lake, WI; Vonnie (Jim) Dunn of Spruce Pine, AL; Tina (Marvin) Griffith of Zion, IL; brother-in-law’s, David (Penny) Schneider of Zion, IL; Chris (Deb) Schnider of Cumberland, WI; Francis (Jeanne) Schnider of Barron, WI; many nieces and nephews, and longtime friend, Barb Opal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Johnnie and Wilma Schnider; grandson, Brandon Schnider; brothers, Quethel (Lee) and Bob Greene; sister-in-law’s, Elaine Greene and Joyce Holmberg; brother-in-law’s, Harry Holmberg and Robert Schnider; nephew, Joe Schneider and nieces Carol Ann Schnider and Debbie Marlar.
