Obituary of Gloria Jean Askew

Gloria Askew (nee Skvarce), 80, passed to eternal life on Monday, December 1, 2021 at home in Wadsworth, IL, ending her battle with cancer. She was born September 6, 1941 in Waukegan, IL to Anton and Cecilia Skvarce. She was very faithful to her church, Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church in Beach Park, IL where she met her husband Jim in bible study. Gloria shared her devotion to God with others through many outreach programs. She was an RN and loved caring for people. She supported, encouraged, and loved her family and friends unconditionally. She cherished the memories of her travels to Međugorje and the Holy Land. She was an avid gardener and animal lover. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Deacon James Askew; her children, Mark (Stephanie) Moll, Scott (Ann) Moll, and Malia (Bill) Benavides; her grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Gabriella and Keegan; and her brother Anton Skvarce and family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and first husband. Visitation will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL from 5 to 8 PM with prayer service and Eulogy at 7 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at St. Dismas Catholic Church, 2600 Sunset Ave, Waukegan, IL, from 9 to 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Uganda Seminarian Ministry, via Our Lady of Humility Church, Beach Park, IL, as well as for ongoing prayers for her eternal rest. The family would like to thank Star Hospice as well as her caregiver, Thelma.
