Well, I put on my mourning attire tonight. My best friend's wife has left us and gone to heaven and tonight is her wake where we will remember and celebrate her life. She was a selfless woman, caring for her parents until they passed, working in various ministries, and being strong in her faith and she will be missed by many.
My heart goes out to Jim Askew, the man I shared bachelorhood with within my misspent youth. He has been an older brother to me and many times he fended off people that were about to step on my hands as we crawled out of the Cork Lounge together in our old Lakeview neighborhood.
I introduced Jim to Gloria and the rest is history, a true tale of love. Today I am sure that he is hurting badly and tonight and tomorrow I will try to be there for him. He cried at my Mother's funeral and that shows what a good friend he was and is.
And Gloria, may Mary Immaculate escort you to Jesus, and may he bring you to see the face of God the Father. Good job, good and faithful servant.
