Obituary of Karen Spoo

Karen Sue Spoo (nee Ostrander), 65, of Roughmont, NC passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. Karen was born March 12, 1956 in Zion, IL to Dorothy and Eugene Ostrander. She was a previous resident of Winthrop Harbor, Antioch and Zion. Karen married James Spoo in an intimate ceremony in Waukegan on September 20, 1986. She was a member of Assembly of God and was a stay at home mom. Karen was extremely caring and loving; she loved gardening, coloring, and taking care of her family and cats. She spent time vacationing with her loving husband of 35 years at the beach. Karen granted her family the most loving, safest and indulgent hugs and encouragement to get through life. Karen is survived by her beloved husband, James William Spoo; daughter Cressell Marie Spoo; mother, Dorothy Marie Ostrander; sister, Laurette Cressel Hesselink; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Ostrander, Sr.; and brother, Eugene Carthay Ostrander, Jr. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL.
