Obituary of Allen Lawrence Vogel

Allen Lawrence Vogel, 70, of Beach Park, IL went home to our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Al was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Lillian and Lawrence Vogel. He and his family moved to the United States when Al was 5 years old. They settled in North Waukegan, IL, which is now Beach Park, IL. He became friends with the large Jansen family, attended Beach Park Schools and Zion-Benton Township High School (Class of ’68). Al was extremely funny and had many friends growing up. Al served in the United States Air Force for 4 years (his last year was in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.) After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Sergeant E4 Aircraft Maintenance Specialist, Al went to work at Sparkling Springs Water Company in Highland Park, IL. Sparkling Springs was later purchased by Nestle Waters North America and Al continued to work in the water bottling business. Having moved in rank from a delivery driver all the way to corporate headquarters, he proudly retired in July 2018, after 44 years of dedicated service. During his early years at Sparkling Springs, he married his neighborhood sweetheart, Dorothy Jansen, and had two children, Andrew and Emily, who amazed him with their level of intelligence and moral compass. On September 10, 2013, Al was immensely proud to become a U.S. citizen. Al is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence F. Vogel; his mother, Lillian H. (Pohl) Vogel; and his sister, Diane (Gordon) Schultz of Canada. Also preceding his death were his in-laws, Howard D. and Barbara M. (Beck) Jansen. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy (Jansen) Vogel; his son Andrew Vogel; his daughter Emily Vogel; his sister Linda (Ray) Branaman; his brother Randy (Laura) Vogel; his niece Kimberly Harris of Canada; his dog Olivia Jane and countless family, friends, and colleagues who will deeply miss him. Al will be remembered as a funny, hard-working man who loved his family. His colleagues knew him as the roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-it-done guy, who was always positive and had a drawer full of candy and a heart full of kindness. In his health, he enjoyed woodworking, historical documentaries, long drives, and enjoying an ice-cold glass of Diet Coke while watching his dogs play and listening to his family talk. He was a quiet, reserved man, but he loved fiercely and always had a smile for others. After the donation of his organs and his cremation, Al’s earthly remains will be laid to rest at Millburn Cemetery, 18550 W. Millburn Road, Old Mill Creek, IL, at a future date.
