I just read about Andy’s passing that occurred 4 months ago and wanted to share how very sorry I am for your loss. I met Andy at the Evangelical United Brethren Methodist Church in Highland Park when I was 15 or 16 and involved in the youth group there. I would see Andy occasionally at church or at church events. We became friends and remained so even after he joined the Army and my family moved to California. We corresponded while he served overseas and continued to write after he returned to Highland Park and joined the fire service.
No matter how many letters or phone calls we shared or the number of years that went by, Andy was always a gentleman, kind and gentle in his words and actions, and very respectful.
We reconnected for a short while via the internet when he was Fire Chief in Wisconsin. He talked about retiring but hadn’t done so yet and I retired from state government in 2004. Unfortunately as time went by communication between us faded away once again.
I will always have very fond memories of Andy and our friendship that lasted many years.

I met Andy several years ago at a conference while he was working for 1-800-BOARD-Up. We hit it off immediately and I felt like he was a long lost friend. We talked about so many things and I found out he lived right down the street from my mom and her family in HP when they were kids. He was so easy to talk to and just an all around kind, generous, loving man. My heartfelt condolences to his family and close friends. The world lost a true gentlemen. Rest in peace, Andy. Until we meet again.
