Obituary of Rickie B. Smith

Rickie B. “RB” Smith, 62, of Beach Park, IL, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 3, 2015, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Rickie was born October 5, 1952 in Russellville, AL, and graduated fro Zion-Benton Township High School in 1970. He married Jacqueline (Dobrinska) Nielsen on February 18, 2002, in Waukegan. Rickie retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after over 40 years of employment. When working with the railroad, he belonged to the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He enjoyed playing pool; and driving his 1996 Camaro SS. Rickie loved his nieces and nephews and grandson. He was also fond of his dog, “Foxy”. Rickie was a jokester and enjoyed a good time. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Nielsen Smith, step-son, Shawn (Cassie) Gilmore of Sioux City, IA; grandson, Keegan Gilmore; granddaughter, Melody Gilmore; mother, Flora Bell Smith of Zion, IL; brothers, Robert Smith of Kenosha, WI, and Ronnie (Tami) Smith of Pleasant Prairie, WI; brother-in-law, Paul Dobrinska; and nieces and nephews and other family. He was preceded in death by his father, James Doyle Smith; sisters-in-law, Cathy Smith and Sue Dobrinska; father-in-law, Gene Dobrinska; and mother-in-law, Jeanne Reynolds. Visitation will be Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL.
