Obituary of Edith Mayfield
Mayfield, Edith Alberta (nee Warren), 91, a lifelong resident of Zion, IL, died on Friday, November 26, 2010.
Edith was born December 4, 1918, in Zion, and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1935. She married Willis Mayfield on May 31, 1940 in Zion. Edith sang on several radio programs over the Moody Radio Network, including Songs in the Night and Temple Time, and served over 70 years as the organist at Grace Missionary Church of Zion and the former Immanuel Baptist Church of Waukegan (presently Immanuel Church of Gurnee). As a church organist, her music was a joyous accompaniment to many weddings; and a source of solace to numerous funerals. Edith and her husband, Willis, traveled to many countries all over the world. She participated in several prayer groups in Zion and supported missionaries and Child Evangelism Fellowship. Edith loved her Lord, her family, her friends, and her church.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Diane) Mayfield of Brentwood, TN, Tim (Teddy) Mayfield of Escondido, CA, and Marcia (Mark) Twadell of Beach Park, IL; her grandchildren, Tracie Mayfield, Jeffrey (Kristen) Mayfield, Shelley Mayfield, Jonathan (Grace) Mayfield, Toby Mayfield, Tracy (Jason) Young, Brian (Kelly) Twadell, and Megan Twadell; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Willis E. Mayfield; sister, Lucille Beliveau; four brothers, Kenneth, Ronald, Albert, and Gordon Warren; and her father and mother, Charles and Gladys Warren.
Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2010, from 6:00-9:00p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. A Chapel Interment Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 Kenosha Rd., Zion. Memorial donations are suggested to Grace Missionary Church, 1425 27th St. Zion, IL 60099.
