Obituary of Lowell Hauenstein
Lowell LeRoy Hauenstein, 87, of Zion, died on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan.
Lowell was born November 21, 1921, in Clovis, NM, and was a highly decorated veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Coast Guard on D-Day, and in the invasions of Northern Africa and Southern France. He was a member of the Zion American Legion. Lowell was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Zion since 1927 and a founding member of the Stick and Rudder Flying Club in Waukegan in 1948. He also had served as an election Judge in Lake County for many years, volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Lake County, and also did volunteer work in south Texas and Mexico. Lowell enjoyed golfing, camping, square dancing and traveling. He left a large impact on a lot of peoples lives.
Survivors include two sons, Lowell Ricks Hauenstein of Zion and Craig (Trish) Hauenstein of Lakewood, CO; grandsons, Darrell Hauenstein of Round Rock, TX, Derrick (Andrea) Hauenstein of Austin, TX, and Dashell Hauenstein of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Megan and Samantha Hauenstein of Athens, TX, and Abigail and Gracie Marie Hauenstein of Georgetown, TX; and brother, Carroll (Mary Lou) Hauenstein of Zion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Marie Hauenstein in 1997; sister, Clova Holverson; and brother-in-law, Vernon Holverson.
A Memorial Service is planned at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to the Hauenstein Scholarship Fund of Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
