Dad. No one can tell a heart what it feels, or just how much time it will need to heal. A million times we'll need you, a million times we'll cry, but we know that you are with us every minute, every day. God Blessed us when he chose you for our Father. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow but also with so much love and pride. We were blessed with the love of a Father for his children that was so pure, God's greatest gift, he gave to us. You were many things to many people, all so very good, but being Dad was your most loving acommplishment. Whenever we think of you or hear your name we will smile with love and be proud you were our Dad. We love you, Rick, Gail and Kim

After I had known Bert for a few years, I asked him how a Good Ole Boy like him had gotten to be up here. He replied that he was out in a field with a mule and a plow
when a buddy of his pulled up in a convertable and asked him how much money Bert had
on him to which Bert replied "About four dollars". His friend said that will help with
the gas and get in, they are hiring in Chicago. So Bert took the bridle and the harness
off the mule and got in the car. I asked Bert whatever happened to the mule to which he
replied "Still there as far as I know".
Bert was the most decent, honest and best friend a man could ask for.

Bert and I enjoyed NASCAR and were able to attend the second Brickyard 400 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway together. After enduring a long rain delay, Berts favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr. won the race. The race finished extremely late and Bert and I just wanted to get home. After trying to take a shortcut out of the speedway parking lot, an Indiana state trooper put us in the "penalty box" and told us we would now be the last to leave. Bert was able to obtain our "release".For years after we would joke about being in the penalty box. Many fond memories of times shared with Bert. My family will truly miss him.
