Obituary of Phillip Davis
Phillip E. Davis, 79, of Pleasant Prairie, WI went to be with his Lord October 6th, 2014.
Born November 13, 1934 to Harry and Eleanor (Cunliffe-Owen) Davis. He graduated from Zion-Benton High School in 1952. Most of his work career was spent at Johns Manville Corporation where he was a heavy equipment operator. Phillip was an avid, large scale gardener and enjoyed sharing the diverse harvest with friends, churches and charities. He was a self educated musician, mastering the baritone horn, trombone, piano, string bass, and numerous other instruments. Phillip was a long time member of the Waukegan Musicians Union through which he entertained with many groups at proms, Great Lakes military base events and various other events throughout Lake County. The baritone was his first love and he played for many years with the Zion Concert Band, serving one term as president. He also enjoyed participating in the Belle City Brass Works, Kenosha Pops, Golden Era Band and the Zion Christian Fellowship Band entertaining at area nursing and retirement homes. Another creative outlet came about when he was "drafted" for the role of Pontius Pilate in the Zion Passion Play, continuing in that part for several years. Later he served a stint as Judas Icarist. On the secular side, Phillip starred in a local presentation of A Christmas Carol as Ebenezer Scrooge earning a standing ovation for his performance.
Phillip leaves behind to treasure his memory his beloved wife of 43 years, Jessica (Wetterau), children Bruce Davis of Kenosha, Clara (Skip) Erdmann of Racine, Paul Davis of Kenosha. dear grand children Vincent Becs of McFarland, Dominic Becs and Tate Erdmann of Racine, Briannah Davis and Trevor Davis of Kenosha. His family meant everything to him. Also surviving are siblings Marceil (Roy) Toomay of Garden Grove, CA, James (Betty) Davis of Winthrop Harbor, Mary Weil of Russell, Ellie (Stan) Schmidt of Beach Park, June Yarboraugh of Withrop Harbor, Edythe Ruth of Winthrop Harbor, and Carol (George) Weber of Beach Park.
He was preceded in the death by his parents and siblings, Marie Miller, Harry Davis, Dorothy Davis and Paul Davis. Phyllis Stonick, Iris Dries, Carl Butz, Barbara Fieberg, and Joseph Davis.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Memorial United Methodist Church would greatly be appreciated.
