Obituary of Charles Degler
Charles "Chuck" W. Degler, "The Hat Man", 86, of Zion, IL, died on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
Chuck was born to Carl and Beulah Degler on April 23, 1927, in Kokomo, IN. Colonel Degler proudly served with the United States Army, 7th Division, 32nd Infantry Regiment for 2 year in Korea and 4 years in the Army Reserve. He retired from OMC after 30 years. Dick loved to shoot pool and played whenever possible and winning many awards.
Chuck is survived by his brother, James Degler of Morrisonville, IL; sister, Marge Amerighi of Winthrop Harbor, IL; niece, Sandra Heathcote; nephews, Dick (Cheryl), Rod, and Vic Degler and Mickey and Greg McIntosh; cousin, Ramona Cooprider and others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Beulah Degler; sister, Martha McIntosh; and nephews, Steve Amerighi and Todd Degler.
A Funeral Service will held on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion IL, with Pastor Michael Brown of the First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor, 3001 9th St., Winthrop Harbor, IL 60096.
