Obituary of Albert Kalo

His editorial comments, vocal and printed, are silenced. Albert Ozzie Kalo died on February 16, 2008, in Waukegan, the city in which he was born June 10, 1918. His parents, Sahag and Sarouhi Kaloustian of Armenia, settled here 1916 and instilled in him an immense pride of his Armenian heritage. Ozzie served in the United States Navy, Fleet Marines as a Pharmacists' Mate, second class, in the Asiatic-Pacific theater in the Second Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion from 1942 to 1945. He attended Lake Forest College on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1948 with a degree in business administration before beginning his own accountancy business. While at Lake Forest, Ozzie was the editor and contributor to a college newspaper and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Independent Men's Club. In August, 1948 he married Betty Ann Burr, with whom he traveled the world, visiting every continent but Antarctica. They have two daughters, Zari Kalo, (children Rachel and Aaron Keistler), of Anna, Illinois, and Leslie McKee, (son, Jeremy Outinen and husband, Scott McKee) of Florida. Ozzie was a frequent "Letters to the Editor" contributor to the News-Sun and Chicago Tribune; he had many appreciative fans. Following his wishes, Ozzie was cremated. The family plans to hold a private celebration of his life this summer. Donations are welcomed in his behalf to any charity of choice. Ozzie's hearty laughter and ever quick wit will be missed.
