Obituary of Michael Cardinal

Michael Eugene Cardinal, 62, of Decatur, IL passed away October 17, 2013 in his residence surrounded by family and friends. Mike was born May 25, 1951 at Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago, IL to Betty (nee Warmouth) Severs. He attended Zion Benton High School in Zion, IL. He continued his education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, graduating in 1975 with a bachelors degree in Design and an associates degree in Architectural Technology. Upon graduation Mike joined BLDD Architects, where after 31 years, he retired as a principle of the firm. He served on the SIU architectural advisory committee. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and a member of Early Bird Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Angie (nee Love) Cardinal of Decatur, IL; children Matt (Heidi) Cardinal of Decatur, IL, Dustin Cardinal of Chicago, IL, Kyle (Tara) Cardinal of Sheridan, IL, and Cara Cardinal of Decatur, IL; 1 granddaughter Cadence; mother Betty (nee Warmouth) Severs of Winthrop Harbor, IL; siblings Bob (Debbie) Cardinal, Kathy (Bob) Meyers, Cindy (Dave) Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Don Severs; sister Donna Baxter; and grandmother Ruth Grace Warmouth. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Aspen Creek Living Center in Sullivan, IL for the exceptional care and love shown to Mike during his stay. A private grave side service will be held October 21, 2013 at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion IL. A memorial service to celebrate and remember his life will be held October 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 1320 Arbor Drive, Decatur, IL at 11:00 a.m.
