Obituary of John Flynn

John T. "Terry" February 4, 1940 January 13, 2012. Terry passed away suddenly from an apparent heart attack on January 13th in Snowmass, Colorado while on a trip with his brothers, Tim and Tom. He had already lived 10 years longer than doctors predicted after his first heart attack 15 years ago. He loved life and considered every day "pure gift." His primary school is now the Gorton Center in Lake Forest, and he was a Class of 1957 graduate of Lake Forest High School. He went to Princeton for one year, finished his Bachelor's Degree at Lake Forest College, and followed with an MBA from the University of Chicago. Terry was born in Chicago, but lived in the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff area for most of his life. In December of 1962 he married well-known local artist Anne Fordtran, who preceded him in death in 2002. He was active in many local organizations including serving two terms as the President of the Jaycees. He served on the Board of Directors of PADS Lake County and I-PLUS, and was very involved in church activities at the Church of St. Mary (Lake Forest) and St. Patrick's (Wadsworth). He was an avid sailor. He owned several boats over the years, and was a member of Waukegan Yacht Club. Terry is survived by his wife, Lynn, and her daughter Kiersten Malo (Boston); his brothers, Tim (Donna) McFlynn of Snowmass, CO, and Tom (Linda) Flynn of Milton, WI; his children: Lisa (Larry) Miller - Lake Bluff, Christine (Jerry) Platt - Beach Park, and Matthew (Heather) Flynn - Waukegan. He's survived by his loving grandchildren, Robert Miller, Dane Hallberg, Sean Miller (fianceé Taylor Jones), Jason and Tabitha Flynn, great granddaughter Kalyn Hallberg, many nieces and nephews, and his kitty, Ashes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dottie Flynn, his sister, Susan, and his first wife, Anne.
