Obituary of Tuula Tamsi

Tuula M. Tamsi, 77, of Beach Park, IL died on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. She was born June 6, 1936 in Helsinki, Finland and came to Waukegan at the age of 14 with her parents and her sister. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waukegan. Tuula retired from Illinois Public Aid after working at the office in Waukegan. She served on the Class of 1954 reunion committee for Waukegan Township High School and she participated in Senior Circle activities at Vista Medical Center East. Survivors include three children Tarja Cervantes and Lauri (Emma) Maennena both of Beach Park, IL and Risto Maennena of Finland; seven grandchildren Donald, Miranda, Caitlyn, Suleima, Julian, Adrian, and Zoe; one great-grandson Logan; and one sister Ritva (Leo) Mikkola of Portand, OR and their daughter Leila of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her first husband Ossi Maennena; her second husband Tenho Tamsi; and her parents Viljo and Helmi Sinkkonen. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 North Delany Road, Waukegan, IL, with Pastor Jeffrey Koth officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to American Heart Association or St. Mark's Evangelical Church have been suggested.
