Obituary of Mathew Barrett

Mathew James Age 52, passed away suddenly at his residence in Zion, IL, on April 5,2013. Mathew was born in Racine, Wisconsin, on June 3, 1960, son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (née, Girard) Barrett. Mathew was a graduate of Washington Park High School in Racine. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Rangers during the early 1980's and was stationed for a time in Munich, Germany. Upon returning from army service to Racine, he met and married Valerie (née, Ball) Barrett on June 3, 1989. They moved to Waukegan, IL, and had one son. Mathew was employed by with local companies including Ocean Spray, Rank Video, and Chelsea and Scott through April, 2013. Mathew was deeply devoted to his family and mostly especially his son, Julian. In addition to his family, he greatly appreciated the companionship he shared with his close friends in the Zion, IL, area. Mathew is survived by his son, Julian Barrett and his son's mother, Valerie Barrett; surviving siblings are sister, Karen (Roger) Skow, Racine, WI; brother, Paul (Pamela) Barrett, Burlington, WI; sister-in-law, Paula Barrett, Wind Lake, WI; sister, Denise Barrett, Racine, WI; and many nieces and nephews. Mathew was preceded in death by both of his parents and his beloved brother, Jonathan Barrett. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, April, 13, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL.
