Don, it's been one year and a couple of days since you passed and I think about you often. In fact, I was driving the other day, kind of zoned out, you popped into my mind and I reached for my phone to call you. I miss our conversations, but have some wonderful, and amazing memories.
Family and friends, my nickname for Don was "Enron". On a business trip one time to Florida, after our meetings and tradeshow, we were having dinner out doors on a beautiful night. A pretty waitress was helping us who Don enjoyed talking to, and I decided to introduce him as Don Enron, but the waitress thought I introduced the two of us as "Don and Ron". It was one of those momements when you had to be there, but Don erupted into lauphter and from then on, when we were out, he always introduced us as "Don and Ron", and he always, always laughed with his great laugh.
Bret, your dad was an amazing man, and he loved you to no end, and he was so proud of you. Personally, I have had the opportunity in my professional career to travel to and work with some extremely talented, and smart people in many different countries and cities. Don, you were one of the best and most skilled sales people I ever met. As a friend, you were like a brother. You are in my heart forever. I love and miss you. Timbo!

I remember when I first met Don. I was in my first year at WKU and was a bit nervous. Don was in his third year, so with his easy-going, fun personality, he helped me get acclimated to WKU University, DIV. I baseball and Bowling Green, Kentucky.
I will always hold the memory of my first night in the dorm room. You had this "HUGE" Tarantula spider. I don't think I slept a wink that first few nights, because every freaking sound I heard in the night, I thought was that freaking poisonous spider running rampant in our room. LOL
I will also never forget the many battles we had playing Bases Loaded Baseball on Nintendo.
RIP Don!! You will be missed my roomate and friend.

RIP!!!! Still in shock knowing Don has passed.
Even though it's been many years since the softball days I can still remember doing all I could to catch your throws coming in from the outfield. Seemed like it was coming at 120 mph with that tail on it.
The golf outing you put together out at Coachman was one of the best ever, I know you were looking to try a repeat of that this summer.
My thoughts and prayers to everyone who ever hsd the the chance to know you.

Rest in Peace my friend. I will always remember the years of Ramey's softball and the many bar stool discussions about baseball and pitching. No matter how many times I heard the story of you picking Warren Spahn up from the airport it was always worth it because it was told with the passion of someone who loves the game. I will also never forget the time you snuck me out of the hotel when we played college baseball against each other. Thanks for showing me how to party WKU style! I couldn't finish this note without telling a story that illustrates how proud he is of Brett. Lori and Don brought Brett to a Carmel baseball camp when he was younger. Brett ended up winning the coaches award at camp. All the coaches loved the kid! The next time I saw Don at softball he thanked me for the award. I told him that there was nothing to thank me about and that I never told any of the other coaches that Brett was the son of a friend of mine. I told Don that I did that with all of my friends kids so if they won an award it was on their own merit. Don got so excited when I told him that, he said " really man!!, are you serious?, really man!! That's awesome!!" He was so excited and it was all to obvious that Brett was his pride and joy. My heart goes out to Brett, Lori and all of Don's family and friends. Rest in piece lefty and tell Warren its his turn to pick you up.

I worked with Don at Weiland. At first Don was a coworker who I thought of as a good guy, always laughing & joking around. Then by chance I carpooled with him for 2 years & he became much more..he became a friend. He was always optimistic, fun to be around & encouraging. He encouraged me in many ways. I loved hearing him talk with such joy about his son Brett.
I was fortunate to know Don.
He will be greatly missed & his memory & great smiling face will always remain in my thoughts & heart

Reading through all of the memorials reminded me of a story related to Don's dancing prowess and one of the best one liners I'll never forget. Don and I, through our years at Weiland, going to lunch together every week day, and the summers on the golf course, were always dancing like fools to songs we heard on the radio, songs we had stuck in our heads, etc. We'd laugh our rear ends off at pictures he'd get on facebook from weddings he attended, pictures that were taken at the client conference entertainment nights, stories, and just about everything else in between. His all-time favorite place to "get down" was 8 Trax on Disney's Pleasure Island in Orlando. The guy had some moves.
We were sitting in his office eating lunch and Don was flipping through his mail. He was recently at a wedding and received a thank you card that said something along the lines of "Don, you are a dancing machine! I can't wait to see the video". We were chuckling and I commented on how I needed to get a copy of that wedding video to see the display. He said without skipping a beat, "No you don't... It feels a lot better than it looks!"
For everyone here that was fortunate to see\hear his sense of humor, you know the exact tone that was used for that line and that first loud "HA!" that he'd let out before continuing to belly laugh.
We were dying laughing for the rest of the day on that one.

It is with heavy hearts we sleep these nights, thinking of Don and days gone byour sincere condolences to his immediate and extended family.
18 Years ago almost to the day, is when I first met Don. Our work lives quickly merged and before long we were travelling all over the country together including distant locations like San Juan, Honolulu, and Calgary. We spent hours on end together.....hotels, rental cars, airports, airplanes....and banks. Don had the uncanny talent of walking into a bank board room filled with stubborn management types....and leave with some new best friends.
On one such trip to Honolulu we decided to go a day early so we'd have a free day, just because it was Hawaii. At dinner that night we were talking about what to do, and Don said... as only Don could, "I don't care what we do, but I am not going to the beach to lie in the sun with you!" Our waiter overheard Don, laughed and said, "my uncle has one of the nicest fishing boats on Oahu, how about I call him and see if he can take you guys deep sea fishing?" Don's eyes lit upand once confirmed Don said "Wait, we need to wear hats and cheesy Hawaiian shirts if we are going fishing". We went to the local ABC store and found $5 shirts and $15 hats. At the end of the Pacific Ocean fishing excursion we had caught 7 Mahi-Mahi (one 4 feet long) and enjoyed an experience of a lifetime.
Another fishing excursion we took had nothing to do with business. Don, Brett and I spent a long weekend together at my summer home in northern Wisconsin. The fishing, jet-skiing, laughs....and company were never better. As luck would have it the fish were biting like crazy and we caught too many to count. Brett caught what turned out to be the biggest fish of the weekend. On the way home Don asked Brett what his favorite part of the weekend was, and all Brett said was "my 22 inch northern pike....the 22 incher".
I could go on and on with stories about Don, like the time we couldn't get a cab in a Detroit suburb...so he walked into a body shop and offered the business owner $100 to drop his paint can and drive us to the airport (which he did)....and another time when his luggage got lost the night before so he did a sales presentation wearing a Chicago Bears sweatshirt smelling like "yesterday"....and still got the sale.
Those stories are endless, but after thousands of miles together and too many cities to mention, today I wish there were fewer business trips....and more fishing trips. The memories Don created, will be with me forever.

Don was one of the the first salesmen I hired for our company in the early ninties. We worked very closely together in contract negoitating, marketing ideas, company growth. Don taught by example so he was always a gentleman to me, very respectful and we shared frustration with propects trying to figure out the optimal path to move the deal along. Despite what was probably his frustration in dealing with me he was always considerate. Sometimes I would go to his office to gripe about my challenges. He had a wonderful way with people putting them at ease. He,Steve and I shared many laughs together. His office was a tribute to his son, so it took no effort to get him to talk about his favorite topic. I learned about so many things from Don; he helped me with technology and improved my patience and people skills. Without Don our company would never have enjoyed the growth it did, nor would have I. He leaves an emptiness that no other will fill. I hope he knew how much I cherished our good times. I would not have sacrificed the trying ones to have missed any of the pleasant ones. If you worked along side Don you indeed have been fortunate because he always had your back. I miss you Don. Thank you for your loyalty and uplifting spirit.

How many memories I have of Don. Don came to work for us in the early 90s in our office above a garage on US 41. He was our second salesman and, as it turned out, the best we ever had. But it is wrong for me to refer to Don as a "salesman" because he was much more than that. He was a man of many talents, energy, intelligence and laughter. How much fun you could have with Don! Early on we would smell the exhaust fumes from the garage below, look at each other and laugh. How could you work in a place where you're being snuffed by exhaust fumes and listening to exhaust pipes being ripped of old cars? You could because Don could find humor in any situation.
Many times we would take sales trips together. I look back and recall that we would laugh, sell, eat, drink and laugh some more. I guess you could call them sales trips but so often, with Don, they were mini vacations. As I write this I see him poking fun at some situation, at me, lighting up with his great smile and just plain laughing.
He was a great salesman because he knew people. He knew the products and he was smart. I recall on one of our first sales trips I was pitching CAA to a group of about twenty bankers. I'm hammering them with feature after feature after feature and some are nodding off. I glanced at Don and he was giving me the "cut" sign by drawing his hand beneath his chin. I remember thinking "That's a lot of nerve. I know how to sell this system". I called a break and Don said "Steve (not Mr. Weiland) you're selling features but you should be selling solutions. Why not let me up there." So I did and Don was the man from there on out.
The stories from in and out of the office would take days to tell and all would be interrupted by smiles and laughter. This is what sticks most in my mind about Don: he was just a fun guy and a pleasure to be with.
We know of the bad times. To this day, and now it's too late, I don't know the problems that drove Don down. It is a tragedy that such a marvelous and talented guy couldn't overcome what plagued him.
He loved Brett with all his being. He would show us pictures, bring Brett to the office, talk about his progress in school and in life. I hope that Brett has learned all the good things that Don had to offer by both teaching and example.
Don was my employee, a good friend, a constant source of joy and a fine man. I miss him. You were great, man.
