Obituary of Don Colella

Don F. Colella, 42, of Zion, IL died on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Don was born September 17, 1969 in Waukegan and briefly lived in Kahoka, Missouri where he graduated from high school before moving back to Zion in 1994. On November 15, 1997 he married Kimberly McDonald of Winthrop Harbor at Christ Community Church in Zion. Don was employed by the Zion Park District. Survivors include his wife, Kim; children, Tabitha Hasper of Montrose, IA, and Alyssa, Kyle, Zachary, and Mia all at home; his mother, Dorothy VanVelkinburgh of Kahoka, MO; and siblings Joanne Heibner of KY, Phillip (Deeanne) Colella of TX, Rosanne (John) Mohan of GA, Robert Colella of IA, Debra Thivierge of TN, Karen (Jack) Gaurdino of IL, Steve (Elizabeth) Colella of MO, and Bonnie (Tim) Creamer of IL. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Pickle in 2001; and his father, Sam Colella. Visitation will be Monday, December 19, 2011, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20th, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
