Obituary of Ronald Bestland

Ronald Duane "Ron" Bestland, 80, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago. Ron was born September 30, 1931, in Wegdahl, MN, and married Gloria Kimball on May 29, 1955, in Minneapolis, MN. His employment history includes service with Warwick Electronics in Zion and International Harvester in Libertyville. Ron was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the United States Air Force. He received the UN Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. He was an avid gardener and loved antiques and always enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gloria; children, Daniel Bestland of Peoria, IL, Kevin Bestland of Milwaukee, WI, Dawn (Steven) Anderson of Greer,S.C., Brian Bestland and Barry (Beth) Bestland, both of Kenosha, WI; 8 grandchildren. 8 great-grandchildren, brother, David Bestland of Hoffmann, MN; sister, Elaine Purdue of IA; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Knute and Alma Bestland; brother, Allen; sister, Lois; and grandson, Ryan Anderson. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Newport Twp., IL. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
