I am sorry for your loss and pray the Lord will comfort each of you now and whenever you feel sadness. This is also a special note of thanks for the service your family provided to the community. We could always depend on meeting family and friends at the restaurant and have a great meal. The Neave's efforts provided a loving and healthy atmosphere for the community to share. Under your family's tender care, the restaurant was certainly an important part of Zion's history. God bless all for the sacrifices made for our enjoyment.

We were so sorry to hear about Uncle Gene. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I have so many fond memories of visits to Zion in the summers when I was growing up. Uncle Gene and Aunt Pudge often provided us with the most amazing fish fry. And the rest of the food was always fabulous. We had fun playing volleyball in the front yard and talking, talking, talking. Gene always had some great stories. I remember meals at Rooks with out-of-this-world pies and strawberry crepes. And I enjoyed the visits that Uncle Gene and Aunt Pudge made to my family after I was married. The fun time we had in Platte, South Dakota. Pudge - Remember the Fudge Nut Davies at Boom's Drive In. And then you also came to see us in your motor home shortly after we moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri. Thank you, thank you for making time to visit us. I wish we could all get together more often. May you feel God's loving arms wrapped around all of you as you remember Uncle Gene. Love, Ronda, Dave, Emily, and Chris Moore

I have the fondest memories of the great times at your home in Zion and especially the fish boils. I remember the flame shooting into the air when Gene would finish it off. As the relatives who lived so far away we didn't spend a lot of time in Zion but we certainly enjoyed the time there. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Mary

My thoughts and prayers are with you right now. Some of my fondest memories were when I worked at Rooks some 30+ years ago. God bless.

Dear Pudge and all Gene's family, Rita sent me Gene's obituary, and I was so sad to hear of his passing. He was such a dear, sweet man. I started at Rooks when I was just 16, and I had a lot of learning to do! Gene was not only patient but he always gave me the feeling he was on my side as I lurched from one learning experience to another. I have thought of him with great affection ever since. Through the years, I dropped by several times to see him on my trips back home from California. I know that I would be a different person were it not for my almost 7 years at Rooks. I often think of the lessons in organization and endurance that I took from that time as well as the many things we laughed and joked about. Pudge, my best to you and all your family in this great loss. Claudia

Dear Neave family, I heard and was saddened by the passing of Gene. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wanted to express my memories of Gene. He had a significant impact on my life. He was my first "boss" and I appreciated the way he set the bar high and was firm in his expectations but also loving and of good humor when things did not go perfectly. I learned some excellent life lessons at Rooks Restaurant that I will never forget! I was a busboy-dishwasher-cook at the restaurant from Approx 1976-1979. I had the privilege of going up to "happy ours" cabin in Door County once. Gene also took me to my first Blackhawks game which is a memory that stays with me. My thanks to the Neave/Rooks family for sharing Gene and the great food and experiences at Rooks with me. Peace to His memory. PS. I am married and living in Park Ridge, IL. I have 3 great kids. I work for Resurrection Health Care/Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines and I am adjunct faculty in nursing (part-time) at North Park University in Chicago. My parents live in Zion at the Senior Cottages behind the K-mart, so I visit Zion regularly.
