Obituary of Thomas Bernardy

Thomas "Tom" Bernardy, 57, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois formerly of North Chicago, and Cody, Wyoming, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the result of injuries suffered from a motorcycle accident on June 30th. He was born March 20, 1950 in Yokosuka, Japan. Tom was a Veteran, having served with both the United States Army and the National Guard. He was an avid motorcyclist and was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He was a life-time member of the N.R.A. and he worked at Great Lakes for PWC for many years. Tom was a special man who drew people to him, making friends everywhere he went. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Tom leaves behind his wife Deborah (nee Dowdy) Bernardy; their adopted son Eddie Collins of Arizona; siblings Stephen (Tonia) Bernardy of Winthrop Harbor, Michael (Sue) Bernardy of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Kathy (Christopher Jones) Bernardy of San Diego, California, Timothy Bernardy of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Nancy Bernardy of San Diego, California, Mary Bernardy of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, and Karen Bernardy of San Diego, California; his in-laws John (Linda) Dowdy of Washington State and Carol (Ray) Hebior of Florida; his brother-in-law Doug (Maggie) Dowdy of San Diego, California; and sisters-in-law Cathi (Joe)_ Bartel of San Diego, California and Jessica Lynch of Oregon; He also leaves hehind his beloved nieces Lindsay and Megan Bernardy and Meagan Dowdy; his nephews Justin, Joshua, Marcus, Matthew, Joey, Johnny and Jeffrey; as well as his brothers in arms David (Barb Smith) Ashby, Donald (Deborah) Spradlin, Jim (Judy) Kutzler and Charlie Drake and Darryl Boling among other close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Geraldine (nee Krueger) and Alphonse Bernardy; and his older brother, Bill. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor David Adams officiating. Private cremation will follow. Visitation will be Monday, July 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. until time of services at the Congdon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Disabled American Veterans has been suggested.
