Obituary of Bernard Swarthout

Bernard "Bernie" Swarthout, 84, of Zion, IL, died on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at home. Bernie was born August 14, 1927 in Vestaburg, MI and moved to this area in 1967. He was a member of Lakeview Church, Zion. Bernie retired in 1998 from the Navy Exchange in North Chicago. Survivors include his siblings, Marjorie Oathout of Zion, IL, Carol (Marvin) Thrush of Kingman, AZ, Glenn (Evelyn) Swarthout of Phoenix, AZ, and Ralph (Marva) Swarthout of Dix, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Swarthout; and his parents, Merton and Violet Swarthout. Visitation will be Saturday, December 3, 2011, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Lakeview Church, 1821 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Church followed by private cremation. Interment will be later at Ferris Township Cemetery in Michigan.
