Obituary of Maria Zuniga

Maria de la Luz Zuniga, 93, of Waukegan, IL, was born October 31, 1913, in Mexico, and was a member of St. Dismas Church in Waukegan, died on Sunday, April 15, 2007, at home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters and sons, Maria del Refugio Vallejo, Esperanza Zuniga, Carmina (Jesus) Lopez, Elvia (Ubaldo) Alonzo, Celio (Heriberto) Sifuentes, Carminia (Emilio) Hernandez, Maria de la Luz (Alfredo) Chavez, Antonio (Socorro) Zuniga, Manuel (Paula) Zuniga, Miguel (Maria Elena) Zuniga, and Jose "Joe (Yolanda) Zuniga; daughter-in-law, Alicia Zuniga; and 38 grandchildren,51 great-grandchildren, (with four on the way) and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mama Luz was a person of infinite love and faith. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren brought her much joy. At the age of 88, she could walk every day for over a mile, beating out her younger daughters. She loved to garden and was able to raise beautiful flowers and vegetables every year. We will always remember her when we see a flower garden in bloom. In spite pf many hardships, Mama Luz was a person who never lost faith or hope and she persevered. She always overcame these obstacles. The stories of her life inspired us all to do better and be better. She will live on in our hearts and in the stories we pass down to our children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Zuniga; son, Francisco Zuniga; and son-in-law, Juan Vallejo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset, Waukegan, IL, with Father John M. Ryan, officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park,in Beach Park. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, until the time of services at the church.
