Obituary of Kenneth Mathis

Kenneth L. Mathis, 73, of Zion, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois. Kenneth was born December 18, 1933 in Dongola, Illinois and has lived in this area most of his life. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Great Lakes. Kenneth served his country with the United States Marines in Korea. He was also a member of the Winthrop Harbor V.F.W., and the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667 where he also served on the Ritual Staff for many years. He enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchild, and he was an avid woodworker, bowler, fisherman and gardener. Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Mathis; children Brian (Teresa) Mathis of Solsberry, Indiana, Becky (Charles) Kennedy of Belcamp, Maryland, Bradley (Michelle) Mathis of McHenry, Illinois, Anita (Richard) Ring of Zion, Illinois, Dick (Theresa) Falstad of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and E. J. (Fianc Cheryl Houston) Falstad of Beach Park, Illinois; eleven grandchildren Sarah, Jennifer, Matthew, Stephen, Christopher, Diane, Courtney, Megan, Taylor, James and Travis; one great-grandson Noah; and one sister Zelma Sacks of Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Mathis in 1987; one brother Wayne; six sisters Lorraine, Geneva, Irene, Opal, Valta and Lucille; and his parents Alvin and Bertie Mae Mathis. Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 2007, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois, where Moose services will be held at 7:00 p.m. and with private cremation to follow.
