Obituary of Delores Bond

Mother Delores Matthews Jones Bond, 73, of Zion, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Glen Lake Terrace Nursing Home in Waukegan, IL. Mother Bond was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 1, 1934. She was the daughter of Lucille Martin and the late Matthews Jones. Delores was united in holy matrimony to the late Vernon Bond Sr. on June 24, 1952, in Waukegan, IL. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, both under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt Tart. She faithfully served for more than 25 years as the Sunday School Superintendent at Ebenezer. Mother Bond later fellowshipped at Christian Love Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Norman Taylor. She served faithfully on the Mother's Board and was active in the Mission Department. Other involvements include an active, dedicated membership of the Eastern Star and volunteer work at Vista Medical Center East. The memory she leaves behind will be cherished by those that loved her. Our hearts will forever be filled with gratitude, because we were blessed to have a Mother like her. Mother Bond leaves precious memories, to her two daughters, Duveen Bond of Waukegan, IL and April Lofton of Zion, IL; four sons, Vernon Jr. (Patricia) Bond of North Chicago, IL, Denorese Bond of Toledo, Ohio, Terrace Bond of Waukegan, IL, Corey (Jessica) Bond of Kenosha, WI; her mother, Lucille Martin of Zion, IL; two sisters, Diane (Sanford) Charity of Columbus, Ohio and Annie Mae Finley of Zion, IL; one brother, Dan (Kay) Martin of Zion, IL; one aunt, Annette (James) Marshall of Waukegan; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Israel of Houston, Texas and Dorothy Kuykendall of Carollton, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and friends. Also surviving are special friends, Mother Hanley, Vivian Bohannon, Ruby Ware and Betty Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Bond Sr; her son, Ferrell Benton Bond; her granddaughter, Maniera Lofton; her step-father, Joseph Martin; her grandmother, Pearl Matthews; her mother-in-law, Lillian Henning; and her Aunt Isabella Cage. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 2:00 PM at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3109 Gilead, Zion, Illinois. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM, Saturday, until the time of services at the church.
