Blessings to you and your family and prayers for the loss of your father. Mr. Cliff was my History teacher at Zion Benton and one of my favorite people to see at school during the day. He was also a high school classmate of my Dad, Leo Brown. I enjoyed hearing stories of high school shared between the 2 of them. My Dad went home to heaven on September 30, 2023 - oh what a reunion these 2 Zee-Bees are having in heaven!
Lots of Love,

Coach Cliff was a great mentor to so many. He taught us to work hard, stay disciplined, and never give up. Our team improved every year, and under his leadership, we were 8-1 as seniors. I am forever grateful for his influence in my life, and will always admire how he helped so many young men.
My condolences to the family for the loss of this great man.
My prayers are with you all.

The memories are flowing now. Leroy was my football and baseball coach in the late 1960's at ZBTH. Those were some tumultuous times, but Leroy always showed us how to be better people, as well as players. After high school, we used to "drop in" on Leroy and Kay to watch football games or just hang out. We were always welcome. He used to come to our class reunions and was usually the center of attention. My wife Daphne and I had the opportunity to spend a day with Leroy and Marty in Florida some years ago and what a wonderful day that was. I was privileged to attend his 2017 coaching recognition celebration in Zion and spend some cherished time visiting with him and some of the other guys that played for him. While Leroy was indeed an outstanding coach and mentor, he was so much more. He was one of God's mighty men. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marty, Michelle and Mike and the rest of his family.

Coach Cliff was the varsity head coach when I was a senior. Although we didn't have a great season, he managed to keep us going
and we were able to secure a win against Barrington in our final game of the season. This was before there were playoffs, and was especially satifying because they were ranked one of the best teams in the state.
Thanks to Coach Cliff, I also got to spend a year at his alma mater, Black Hills State College. He will be missed as one of the special men in my life. Thank you, Coach.

Coach Cliff was a special person and a great coach. He taught me so many things that I carried through my life. One of his most important lessons was "Never Quit". I passed his lesson on to kids I coached and had those two words tattooed on my wrist as a constant reminder for myself. Thanks for everything, Coach.

TO MARTY, MICHELE & MICHAEL:y
WHAT A PROFOUND LOSS WHEN I READ OF LEROY'S PASSING. WE HAVE BEEN FRIENDS FOR 71 YEARS. I WAS A FRESHMAN IN 1953 & LEROY WAS A JUNIOR. IN MY FRESHMAN YR. WE BOTH PLAYED FOR THE ZION-BENTON ZEE-BEE'S. I REMEMBER LEROY USE TO BRING NOTES FROM MR, GATTO TO MR. ELLIS IN MY FIRST HOUR CLASS. I REMEMBER HIM PLAYING "WING BACK" WHEN ZION PLAYED THE "SINGLE WING" FORMATION.. BOY, COULD HE EVER RUN! AFTER HE'D BLOCK OUT HIS OPPONIT, HE'D ALWAYS HAVE THAT BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE!!! LEROY NEVER "LOOKED DOWN" ON ME BECAUSE I WAS JUST A FRESHMAN..........WHAT A GUY!!!
LEROY AND I TALKED ON THE PHONE MANY TIMES, AND OF COURSE IT WAS ABOUT HIS PLAYERS!! HE WAS SO PROUD OF ALL OF THEM. HE WOULD TELL ME WHERE DIFFERENT PLAYERS WERE TODAY AND WHAT THEY WERE DOING. HE WAS ALWAYS SO HAPPY WHEN HIS OLD PLAYERS WOULD CALL OR STOP BY TO SEE HIM IF THERE WERE TRAVELING CLOSE TO HIS HOME.
MISS HIM? OOOOOOOOOOH YOU BET!! AND AS PROUD AS
HE WAS OF HIS PLAYERS, HE WAS EVEN MORE PROUD OF HIS TWO KIDS!!
YES, ZION HAS LOST A REAL HERO IN SO MANY WAYS~
TO HIS TWO GROWN CHILDREN.........REMEMBER ALL THE GREAT TIMES YOU HAD WITH HIM AND ALL THE STORIES THAT HE TOLD YOU.
RIP DEAR FRIEND & I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN IN HEAVEN
DEEP REGARDS,
CORTY~

My husband, Art Baker, taught school with Leroy for 27 years. And during that time he was a big supporter of Leroy and all his coaching skills. They played softball together for many years and had many jam sessions telling stories about their experiences with each other and their students. Art admired him with love and respect. I know he will be missed by all. Praying for your family. Lovingly, Trudy Baker

God bless Coach and his family. He was such a good role model for all of us. I went to school and played sports with Michelle. She had Coach's focus and dedication, very much like her dad. May he RIP. My sympathy to the family.
