Obituary of Ruthie B. Campbell

Ruthie B. Campbell, 89, of Gurnee, Illinois, passed away December 7, 2023. She was born October 16, 1934, in Berry, Alabama.  Her identical twin Ruby was born 10 minutes earlier. 

Ruthie moved here with her family in 1954, settling in Waukegan. She attended Muellers school of cosmetology and continued her career as a self-employed beautician until she was 83 years old. Ruthie loved all her clients and had so many wonderful friends.

Ruthie also loved to garden and grow flowers.

She loved to cook, and she was such a good cook.  She took care of everyone in her life, we often told her she should have been a doctor.

Ruthie was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017. She fought hard through chemo and radiation therapy at City of Hope in Zion, Illinois. They took great care of her and were able to keep her home with her family as long as possible.

Ruthie is survived by her daughter Linda (Donald) Rankin; grandchildren, Donald (Tina) Rankin Jr., Steven (Ellen) Rankin, Christopher Rankin, Cody Wild, Matthew (Sarah) Campbell, and Nathan Campbell; and siblings, Lendon (Faye) Earnest and Bessie (Delbert) Ward.

Her family meant everything to her.  Her Mother Robertie and her Father Marvin raised ten children who all loved each other with a tremendous bond.  She loved her in-laws like they were her second parents and Romie and Bill loved her just like she was their only daughter.

Ruthie was proceeded in death by her husband, Charles Campbell; son, Larry Campbell; and siblings, J.D. (Jeanette) Earnest, Major (Ruby Nell) Earnest, Christine (Clarence) Bonner, Newborn Earnest, Ruby (Herbert) Pounders, Mitchel Earnest, and Huel Earnest.

A visitation will be held Thursday December 14, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion Illinois 60099.
