I remember as a boy doing stupid stuff taking my BB gun and shooting out a window of one of the houses he was building. He was nice enough to accept my weeding and laboring in his back yard for a month to make up for the error of my ways. Only he’d make sure I had breakfast before starting the chores. Good neighbor and nice man. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. My deepest sympathy to the Funderburk Family. Jim was well liked and respected by so many from Zion and Winthrop Harbor. He touched so many lives, professionally and socially. He was always a friendly and fun-loving person to my husband, Ronnie Ransom and I. Rest in Heavenly peace Jim as you join my husband, Don Williamson and many others.

Our connection with Jim was when he built The Woods in Zion. My mom and dad bought a condo there. Unfortunately, my dad passed away before he could move in, but my mom moved in shortly after Dad passed. Jim was so good to my mom, always calling her and checking in with her to see how she was doing. They became great friends. They also had an AZ connection—Mom had a condo in Scottsdale and when Jim was in Fountain Hills, he agreed to remodel her condo. They bonded well over their southern roots, Mom being from Mississippi. Wendi and their family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Jim while working with my dad Les trimming houses. Jim later hired me to set trim nails and putty the nail holes for $25 dollars a week, I was 12 at the time. I can’t say that particular job helped my career path however Jim taught me when you do a job you’re putting your name on it. Funderburk homes had his name and were of the highest quality. I also have great memories of riding snowmobiles in the Upper Peninsula. To be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD!

My old buddy Big Jim will be missed. He treated me good and kept me busy for years. We built alot of stuff I'll tell you. As for a memory. He took me to Florida to build a house years ago. We started to set roof truses the crane operator stopped and said you boys ain't from around here are ya He said we don't do things here that way. Oh Big Jim said we are from Illinois I'm paying you so we will just do it our way and forward we went. He lived his life his way did things his way as it should be. He earned the name Big Jim and I will miss him. To Wendy and the whole family I am so sorry for your loss He will be missed. I send love to you all. Jimmy Fout.

I first met Jim when I was 20 years old carrying block for the concession stand building. He was a tell it like it is guy and a building inspector worst nightmare, probably because he knew the codes better than them. He also had a soft side. One year he walked down the street in the snow to play Santa for my girls. My daughters were happy but skeptical cause Santa had a southern accent.
He will truly me missed by many and I will always be grateful for his advice and friendship.
