Obituary of Wayne S. Harrison

Wayne Scott Harrison, 52 of Schaumburg, Illinois passed away July 17, 2023 surrounded by his family, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, after courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Waukegan, IL on July 24, 1970 and grew up in Zion graduating from Zion-Benton in 1989. He was the son of Patricia Harrison and the late Ralph Wayne Harrison. He majored in Production at Columbia College Chicago, receiving his Bachelor’s degree.  Most recently he was employed by Rentex Inc. He also worked for VER and spent many hours doing freelance projects for events such as Lollapalooza. He spent many years as a teenager and throughout college working for the Zion Park District at Shiloh Golf Course. Wayne was a lifelong fan of anything Star Wars and the Chicago Cubs. He was passionate about Fantasy Baseball and loved to play golf. He had a love for music including years of Jimmy Buffett concerts, Depeche Mode and most recently supporting the Buckle Band and Kenny Live. Wayne had a positive approach to life and could find the good in most circumstances.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Patricia Harrison; sister, Sondra (Scott) Ruckebeil; aunt Mary Richards, aunt Karen Sommerfeldt, uncle Dexter (Lori Banner) Sommerfeldt; cousins, Erin (Scotty) Miller, Dexter (Brittany) Sommerfeldt and Uncle Wayne to his special cousins Ellie and Carter Miller.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Harrison; his maternal grandparents, Florence and Otto Sommerfeldt.

He also had an amazing circle of friends many who were lifelong friends. Wayne often said that he was very fortunate to be surrounded by the people he had in his life.

A memorial service will be held July 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Memorial visitation will take place at 12:30 pm till the time of the service.
