Obituary of Janet Mae Storey

Janet Mae Storey of Zion, Illinois, beloved wife, encouraging mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed into the presence of her Savior on June 21, 2023, surrounded by a large contingent of her children and grandchildren.  Janet was born, at home, on May 26, 1934, in Zion, Illinois, the first child of Clifford and Evelyn (Mann) Peterson.

Janny attended Zion Parochial School, then Zion Grade Schools.She related many happy childhood memories of time spent with her British Grandpa Arthur Mann who would take her by train into Chicago to concerts and museums  She graduated (upper 10%, as she would always tease our dad,) from Zion-Benton Township High School.

High School friends continued to meet for over 70 years, with a large group of friends who would meet once a month  for "Club" in each other's homes. Lately, the ladies met for "Cards," where they would play "Hand and Foot" and share the noon meal once a week.

Jan married Loren Storey on September 20, 1952 at the Christian Catholic Church in Zion.  After the children started arriving, she took over care of the home, yard, and kids, supporting dad's very busy career at the Zion State Bank. During the mid to late 1980's, during deregulation, the bank was sold a number of times during a very short time span. Dad determined that early retirement was a good idea.This decision gave mom and dad 20 happy and productive years of retirement before dad's passing in 2008.  

Mom was a positive, funny lady, who enjoyed the music that was ALWAYS playing in our home.  She missed dad greatly, especially in her later years, but she had the sure hope of seeing him again. She was a prayer warrior for her family, with an interested ear when the grandchildren came over for a visit.

Janet is survived by her children, Sherry (Gary) Trantham, Lisa (Barry) Pratt, and Randy Storey; grandchildren,  Mitchell Trantham, Owen Trantham, and Julie (Chris) Kamphaus, Adam (Stacy) Storey, Nora Storey, Cody Storey, and Lance (Ari) Storey, Katie (Erik) Jones, and Krissy (David) Adams; great-grandchildren, Aiden Storey, Caleb Storey, and Annika Jones;  siblings, Larry Peterson, Marilyn (Darwin) Borden, Marj (Brian) Monaghan, and Craig Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Storey; her parents, Clifford and Evelyn (Mann) Peterson; and her sister-in-law, Doris Peterson.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 11:00 am at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL, with Pastor Ken Langley officiating.  Visitation will be on July 5 at the church from 9:30 until time of service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Camp Zion have been suggested.
