Obituary of Mary Rose Williams

Mary Rose Williams, 87, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023 at the Vitacare Nursing Home under hospice care in Medford, WI.

Mary was born on June 5, 1935 in East Chicago, to parents Robert and Dorothy Wilkins. As a child Mary grew up in Hammond, IN. After graduating, Mary continued her education at Sterling College majoring in Elementary Education. 

Mary began her teaching career in Ethiopia, Africa for two years, which she felt was both adventurous and rewarding. Upon her return to the United States, Mary began teaching in Milwaukee, WI. It is here where she met her future husband and love of her life Jim Williams. 

Mary and Jim were married on April 15, 1965 and then moved to Zion, IL. Later they moved to Waukegan where they resided for the next 50 years. Mary Rose taught 5th grade at Beach Park School for 25 years and was beloved by her students and coworkers. 

Mary and Jim had one child, Jamie Hope, who was the love of their lives. Sadly, their world fell apart when Jamie passed at the age of 13 from leukemia.

Mary is survived by her brother Robert, Medford, WI and nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim; daughter Jamie; sisters, Sally, Janet, and Barbara.
