Obituary of Rita Guerin

Rita Marie Guerin, of Waukegan, IL, passed away February 11, 2023 at Allure of Zion in Zion, IL. She was born August 12, 1935 in Waukegan, IL, to parents Frank and Sophie Michalski.

Rita spent her entire life in the Waukegan area. At the tender age of nineteen, Rita married Robert E Guerin on May 3, 1955 at Holy Rosary Church in North Chicago, IL. Rita graduated from Waukegan highschool and went on to earn her Associates Degree at the College of Lake County. Rita worked as a paralegal for nearly a decade before starting her career at Abbott Laboratories.

Rita passed after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’ Disease, but she never let the disease define her. Rita was a lively and spirited soul who loved traveling, painting a mixture of realism and painterly art, and playing golf. One of Rita’s many talents was her ability to put people to work.  Although she barely topped 5'2", she could still get her leg up high enough to kick you in the butt if she felt you weren't working hard enough. Rita was a beautiful woman with a smile that lit up the whole room. She could be the life of the party and loved to laugh. She always enjoyed a good joke but never liked to be put down.

Rita is survived by Sister Joan (Frank) Heraver; children, Bernie (Paula) Guerin of Atlanta, GA and Bridget Guerin (Steve) Olson of Loudon, TN; Grandchildren Ross (April) Guerin of Grayslake, IL, Allison (Josh Behling) Guerin of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and William Guerin of Chicago, IL.; three great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E Guerin; Son, Robert K Guerin; Parents Frank and Sophie Michalski; One brother, and seven sisters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday March 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home. Rita will be laid to rest at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
