Obituary of John G. Patterson, Sr.

John G. Patterson, Sr. passed away December 19, 2022 at James A Lovell Federal Healthcare Center in North Chicago, Illinois. John was born on September 5, 1946 to Delbert and Veronica Patterson.

John worked at Abbott Labs, K-mart Automotive Center, and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. John, who is an Army Vietnam Veteran, was an avid member of many associations. During his time at the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) post 7448, John was a Delegate, Board Member, District Service Officer, Past Commander, Past All-American Post Commander, Past Chaplain, and Legacy of Life Member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 1943, Winthrop Harbor ESDA, a Lake County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, the Lake County Veteran Assistance Commission Board (VAC), Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 16 and Executive Committee member the Polish League of American Veterans (PLAV). John was also a Holy Rosary altar boy and attended church at Our Lady of Humility in Zion, Illinois.

John is survived by his wife, Judith; children, Kimberly (Reginald Jr.) Pontillo, John Patterson Jr. and Michael Patterson; grandchildren, Kody Pontillo, Aron Pontillo, Gloria Gene; twin brother, James Patterson and older sister, Agnes Custer, along with many nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Veronica Patterson; sisters, Carole Rampale and Manya Cook; brother, Tom Ptasenski and brother-in-law, Albert Custer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road Zion, IL, 60099. Funeral Service to follow at 7 p.m. with Military Honors.
