Obituary of Dr. Peter George Vlasis
Dr. Peter George Vlasis,73 years old passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022, in Lake Forest, Illinois, surrounded by family. He was born on January 6, 1949 in Chicago, IL.
Peter is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Vlasis and his son, Peter A Vlasis, and is preceded in death by his parents, Victoria and George Vlasis. Peter was a good father, husband, uncle, brother, son, and friend to all.
He graduated high school from Morgan Park Academy in 1966, graduated from Monmouth College in 1970, and graduated from Illinois College of Optometry 1977. Peter practiced as an optometrist for a span of 40 years, seeing patients in both Zion, IL and Mundelein, IL. He had a passion for his profession and was excited by the latest innovations in optometry. He really enjoyed visiting with and helping his patients. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing sports, including basketball, fishing, water skiing, and track & field. Golf was another passion of his. He cherished the camaraderie of playing with his friends. He also would watch any sport on television including golf, all Chicago teams, and especially the Olympics. He also loved to travel on family road trips up to Thunder Lake in Minnesota, Door County, WI, down to Florida, and all across the western and northeastern states. He showed a genuine interest in other people's lives and demonstrated compassion and empathy. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always tried to get a laugh out of everyone!
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at https://pancan.org/
