Obituary of Luz Mendez-Rodriguez

Luz Mendez,88 years old passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022, in Waukegan, Illinois, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born on November 7, 1934 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. 

Her parents were Amada Rodriguez Nieves and Tomas Mendez. In her youth, Luz worked at New York Department Store in Santrurce, Puerto Rico. Once married, she dedicated herself to caring for her four daughters. She alway wanted her girls to be active in extracurricular activites at school and in the community. 

Luz was a good mother, daughter, and friend to all. In addition, she demonstrated great love for her pets. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four daughters, Norma Pereira, Ivonne Pereira, Myriam (Ramon Tavarez) Pereira, Evelyn (Elizondo Velez) Pereira. She also leaves nine grandkids, and eight great-grandkids, her sister Olga and a great number of family members and special friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Pereira, her grandparents Rosa Nieves and Carlos Caballero and her parents Amada Rodriguez and Tomas Mendez, her grandson Christian Liz, and her granddaughter Paloma Peralta. 

Her favorite pastime was assembling puzzles. She loved to dance, listen to music, go shopping and going out to eat. From time to time, she liked to go to the movies. Also, she lovoed to celebrate birthdays and holidays with her family. She also loved to remember her youth by viewing photos. She always dressed up, with make-up and perfume. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
