Obituary of Rose Rowland

Rose Rowland, 81, of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away on October 23, 2022. She was born on April 24, 1941 in Zion, IL the daughter of George and Rose (Pitzen) Obenauf.

Rose worked for the Zion post office for over thirty years before retiring, she was also a member of the Moose, where she met many friends. Rose attended Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church in Beach Park, IL.

Rose was a strong willed woman, but loved deeply with her heart, and was loved by many. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sneaking treats in when she could or taking them shopping. She loved to cook for her family, especially her shepherd's pie or spaghetti with homemade pasta sauce. Rose was also talented in crocheting and making quilts.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Terri Mason; grandchildren, Shayne (Erica) Bjorn, Christopher (Tonya) Mason, Nicole (Christian) Vermillion; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Abby, Brayden; siblings Norman Obenauf, Pat Vaplon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her children, Bill Athey, Ronnie Athey, Eddie Athey; granddaughter Natalie; parents, and siblings.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
