Obituary of Aubrey Sanders

Aubrey Sanders (better known as “Ricky”) was born on February 13, 1929, in Goudeau, LA to Sylvester & Beatrice (Lee) Sanders. He accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Peabody High School in Alexandria, La.

Aubrey worked at Cotton Brothers Bakery in Louisiana for 13 years. He was joined in marriage to Lillian Bradley (now deceased) and to this union were born five children; Dixie Sanders of Paramount, Ca, Roy Lee Sanders of Alexandria, LA, Aubrey Faye Sanders of Carson, CA, and Richard (PeeWee) Sanders of San Diego, CA, and Diane (Sanders) Johnson of Alexandria, LA, (now deceased)

In 1958 he relocated to Illinois and was joined by Margaret Holmes/Pickett (now deceased) and in this union was born 6 children: William C. (Melva) Holmes, of Beach Park, IL Patricia A. (Anthony) Quinn of Waukegan, IL Hester M. (Ernest) Abbott, Danny Ray (Gail) Sanders (now deceased) of St. Louis, MO, Rose M. (Warren, Jr.) Peters, Margie L (John, Jr) Taylor, all of Zion, IL. He was a lifelong member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Waukegan, IL.

He was again united in marriage to Lula Mae Harris (now deceased) and lived in Waukegan, IL for many years with stepson Larry Harry (now deceased).

Aubrey worked for the Glen Flora Bakery in Waukegan, IL, Abbott Laboratory, in Illinois, and Chryslers/American Motor, in Kenosha, Wisconsin for 34 years until his retirement. He then became an independent contractor with Universal Transportation Taxi Service in Waukegan, IL.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Eligah Washington, and five siblings; Lula Mae (Sanders) Loften, Helen (Washington) Cody, Doretha (Washington) Pollard, Mamie (Washington) Reed, Cleveland Washington, and one special nephew, Donald Cody.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children and a host of grand-children, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family members and friends.

Services will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2500 W. 30th St., Zion, IL. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
