Obituary of Mamie Rae McNutt
Mamie Rae McNutt found joy in all of life’s large and small gifts. She could always be found smiling, sharing a kind word, or giving wonderful hugs. Mamie spent her life in Illinois. She was born in Waukegan on 12/23/1957 but lived most of her life in Zion, where she passed away on 10/20/2022.
Faith in God was a cornerstone of Mamie’s life. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist in Winthrop Harbor and was a beloved member of her faith community. Mamie’s strong faith gave her the positive outlook and trust to take on one of the biggest challenges of her life: a cancer diagnosis. She fought cancer for many years and exceeded the timespan of several prognoses. Mamie’s grace during her cancer journey inspired many: she was optimistic in the face of bad news, patient despite pain and illness, and loving and joyful throughout a long and difficult path. Her example has helped countless others, who have been inspired by her steadfastness and resilience. Before and well into her fight with cancer, Mamie was a successful and highly decorated realtor. She won so many awards that displaying them all was out of the question, and storing them all was a challenge.
Despite her considerable professional success, Mamie lived for her family. She loved them fiercely and they loved her right back in turn. Mamie is survived by her two sisters, Margaret Davis, Nancy Hibnick, and her three sons, Michael McNutt, Jr. (Mariel Angie Sanchez), Stephen McNutt (Leanne Wadman), and Timothy McNutt (Christina Florek). Mamie was a proud grandmother of six treasured grandchildren: Caleb McNutt, Kaylee Williams, Michael G. McNutt, Ryah McNutt, Mackenzie McNutt and Addison Wence. She has been greeted in heaven by those who passed before her, including Hilma Lindgren Heaton (mother), Lenzie Heaton (father), and her brothers, Leslie Heaton and Lenzie Heaton, Jr. It is impossible to adequately say goodbye to Mamie, who was the kind of mother, grandmother and friend that everyone wishes to have. Her legacy is one of kindness, hope and faith, and we will miss her terribly.
