Obituary of Florence Goodbody

Florence M. Goodbody, age 93, of Waukegan, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2006 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Florence was born March 8, 1913 in Waukegan to the late Rasmus A. and Fannie Sokup Rasmussen and grew up on the family farm. She carried her passion for nature, the outdoors and wildlife throughout her life. She attended Waukegan Township Schools and went on to become a Registered Nurse. Always quietly outspoken, Florence was actively supportive of many health care issues and Women's rights during and after her nursing career. She loved her family and friends very much. She also enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, growing flowers, art & music, especially playing the violin. In her retirement years, Florence continued her love of the outdoors and nature by by feeding the area wildlife, taking long walks while observing the trees, plants and flowers and caring for her pets. She often started her day with a crossword puzzle and a cup of hot tea. She will be missed by all. She is survived by her son Raymond F. (Joan Welton) Goodbody of Waukegan, Illinois; nephew George A. Rasmussen of Bellevue, Kentucky and Kenneth V. (Kathryn) Rasmussen of Williamstown, West Virginia; nieces, Alice M. (Dr. Kenneth) Cameron of Sitka, Alaska and Ilsa Jorgen Jensen of Ans, Denmark; cousins, Peggy Pedersen and Betty Hopkins of Waukegan, Illinois; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Goodbody; her parents, Rasmus A. and Fannie Sokup Rasmussen; brothers, Raymond A. (Grace) Rasmussen and Frank J. (Gladys) Rasmussen; sister, Dora M. Rasmussen; and her twin sister, Esther V. Rasmussen. Visitaion will be Friday, November 3, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:00 noon at the Congdon Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park.
