Obituary of Frances Cahill

Frances Cahill, 106 years of age, passed away peacefully at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL, on April 22, 2022. Frances was born on March 9, 1916 in Hurley, WI, the third child of Angeline and Angelo Barbara. She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936 and went on to work as a waitress. Her father taught her to drive at the age of 15 and she continued to drive until she was 99. Frances was the second of her sisters to move to northern Illinois to find work as a maid. She lived in the home she worked in until moving on to a factory job with Abbott Labs and sharing a rental room in a home in Waukegan. On one of her days off from working as a maid, Frances visited the Harbor Inn Tavern where she was introduced to her future husband, Cornelius Thomas Cahill. They married in 1945 and together raised three children. Frances was skilled in needlepoint, crocheting, and sewing, having made most of the clothing and coats for her children. Once the children had grown and gone off on their own Frances and Cornelius moved into a retirement living facility and spent their spare time polka dancing. Frances enjoyed traveling and visited other continents and countries with the Abbott Travel Club. She also enjoyed many cruises. Frances leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Dennis (Rosemary) Cahill, Maurice (Kathleen) Cahill, and Dorothy (Richard) Filipowicz; grandchildren, Sean Cahill, Thomas Cahill, Brian Cahill, Diane Poehler, and Lori Spiewak; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Angelo and Angeline Barbara; husband, Cornelius Cahill; granddaughter, Andrea Arnow; four sisters; and one brother. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass, at the church. Interment will be private for the family in LaSalle, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to a humane society of your choice have been suggested.
