Obituary of Ruth Irene Breckenfeld

Ruth Irene (neé Federmeyer) Breckenfeld, 97, a life-long resident of Zion and Winthrop Harbor, entered God’s Glory on February 12, 2022. Ruth grew up in the town of Zion, IL of Christian origins and witnessed many faith healings in the church. Ruth married Howard Breckenfeld in 1944 when he returned from the Navy after WWII ended. They had three children, Bruce, Susan, and Brian. After marriage she joined the Methodist Church in Winthrop Harbor which was a major influence on their Christian walk along with their children. She was a wife, homemaker, pie baker, hotel clerk, and affected the lives of countless people throughout her life. A faithful servant of the Lord in and out of her church, she was the best mother, neighbor and friend to everyone that she met. She will be missed by her surviving children, Bruce (Joanna) Breckenfeld, Susan (Tony) Hladky, and Brian Breckenfeld; grandchildren, Chris (Laura) Hladky, Kara Hladky, Ted (Tina) Breckenfeld, and Ellen (Brian) Shaunessy; great-grandchildren, Molly Hladky, Alice Hladky, Hanna Breckenfeld, and Garret Breckenfeld; several nieces, nephews; brother-in-law Jim Breckenfeld; and the caregivers of Rolling Hills Manor nursing home. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Howard Breckenfeld; parents, John and Beulah (nee Scott) Federmeyer; brother, Richard Federmeyer. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet, Zion, IL.
