Obituary of Lyle Snyder

Lyle Snyder, 91, of Zion, IL, passed away peacefully on January 14th, 2022. Lyle was born June 17th, 1930 in Duluth, MN to Vern and Irene Snyder. After moving to Waukegan, IL he attended Waukegan East High School and furthered his education in automotive mechanical and collision repair. In 1950 he married Marlene Schroeder of Waukegan. Together they had a goal of opening their own automotive business and in 1954 they started Zion Auto Body. Early on in his life Lyle enjoyed riding motorcycles with Marlene, playing ice hockey competitively and bird hunting every Fall with his Dad, Uncle and various friends. Later on he became an aviation enthusiast, earning his private pilot’s license and becoming a member of Waukegan Memorial Airport Stick and Rudder Club. Snow skiing was also a love and many family vacations were spent in his beloved Colorado Rockies. Throughout all of his years Lyle loved the game of golf, spending many hours with his sons, grandsons and friends, being challenged by the sport until his last days. But his love and devotion to his family was his lasting legacy. Those who will carry on this legacy include his wife of 71 years, Marlene; children Rick (Kathie),Mike, Dan (Ellen) and Todd (Julie); grandchildren Mike (Keri), Kurt (Krysten), Erik (Lydia), Scott (Katie), Chad (Michelle), Brian, Holly (Jeremy), Mark (Lauren), Lindy, Elizabeth, Abigail, Makayla and Janaya; and 18 great-grandchildren, Kamden, Kenzi, Kayzlee, Judah, Naomi, Benjamin, Samuel, Avery, Finnley, Zoey, Hayden, Audrina, Maksim, Lillian, Winston, Lincoln, Elanor and Gideon. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Franz, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Irene Snyder; grandson Aaron Snyder; daughter-in-law Jan Snyder; sisters-in-law Jane Kilponen, Glenn Root and Alice Schroeder; and brothers-in-law Arthur Kilponen, Preston Root, Howard Schroeder and Chuck Franz. A Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. Burial will follow at 12:30 P.M., at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL.
