Obituary of Ray Alvin Mitchell
Ray Mitchell, 90, of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in West Virginia.
Ray was born on March 18, 1931 in Buffalo, West Virginia. He married his wife Trilby on March 30, 1957. Ray retired from Culligan after 30 plus years of employment. He was a proud Korean War Veteran and participated in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on June 9, 2017 with his daughter Teresa. Ray loved watching WWE and Westerns and was a devoted Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and Papaw.
He will be greatly missed by his three children Linda (Jeff) Springer, Eugene Mitchell, and Teresa Blackburn; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; siblings, Dick (Peggy) Mitchell and Sue (Frank) Tucker; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Trilby in 2005; his son, Ronnie in 1995; his parents, Oliver and Ruby Mitchell; and his siblings, Darrelll Mitchell, Dennis Mitchell, Ruth Ann Jividen, and Irene Matthews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Interment and graveside prayer will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
