I truly can’t believe that Bruce is really gone. We will miss seeing him outside with Brandy (sometimes trying to catch her when she decided to go for a walk) or working in his garage on one of his many projects. It was a wonderful day when he and Cindy moved in across the street. He was a wonderful friend to my son and me. If we had a mechanical problem with a snowblower or lawnmower he was always willing to look at it and get it running. We really enjoyed the ribs he cooked in his smoker. Please know he will always have a place in our hearts and will be missed. Unfortunately I have a prior commitment so will not be able to attend his services.

My family & I send our Condolences to Jeff, Diana & extended family. I was shocked & saddened by the passing of my childhood friend. Bruce would come over to my house almost every afternoon during the summer so that we could try to get into the Guinness Book of Records by playing volleyball over the fence without having the ball hit the ground!! We would also play jacks on my front porch. The neighborhood kids (Paulson, Staker, Mercer, Burt, Graham & Us) would play kick ball in the street, bike ride, skateboard, make forts. We also had Vacation Bible Study for a week in the Henkels backyard singing Kumbaya & other songs. Bruce loved Rock music (AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Ozzie Osborne to name a few) while I enjoyed Soft Rock (Journey, Foreigner) we would go back & forth defending our choice of music. Unfortunately. we lost touch after high school with each of us taking our path in life. My Sisters & I will always cherish our childhood memories & friendship. May the Henkel family & friends find comfort & strength in our Lord during this difficult time. Our Hearts Are Broken. RIP Bruce.
With Love,
Diane Gonzalez

Dear Henkel family and Bruce’s friends, my family and I want to offer our deepest condolences and prayers to all those who knew and loved Bruce.
Bruce was a dear childhood friend of my sisters, me, and the neighborhood kids. He always had a smile on his face and was a good friend to all of us! We shared so many good times with Bruce growing up. He will be truly missed and remembered by all those whose lives he touched!! He had such a gentle/friendly soul! May he rest In peace!!
I will be on vacation, out of state, and unfortunately will not be able to attend the memorial service in person but know that I will be present in spirit! Stay strong!

When I think about Bruce I smile as childhood memories come to mind. Our neighborhood was filled with kids and we were constantly playing outdoors especially in the summer. Bruce would come over our house regularly. We would play cards, board games, and volleyball. He and my sister, Diane, always challenged each other on who could volley longer without letting the ball drop. We would ride our bikes, play cops and robbers, listen to music, read books, and talk about his cat, Susie Q, and his dog, Macho. We joked about the many times Susie Q became pregnant and how Macho was always patrolling the streets causing trouble and scaring people. Those are only a few of many childhood memories of Bruce and his siblings along with memories of the Stakers, Mercers, Devers, Paulsons, and our family, Gonzalez. Many of us moved away after high school and lost touch, but we will always cherish the memories. Those of us that knew Bruce know that he was a kind and loving soul. We were blessed to have known him and he will truly be missed and remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff, Diana, and extended Henkel family. May God bring you comfort during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Sandra Gonzalez

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I have such fond memories of Carol from childhood at Aunt Mary & Uncle Vern's house and getting together for some reunions when you kids were young. I only wish I had been able to spend more time getting to know all of you.
