Obituary of Joyce Besnah

Joyce E. Besnah, 82, of Zion, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2021. Joyce was born November 15, 1938 in Franklin County, AL to Grace and Leamon Hughes; she became a resident of Zion more than 50 years ago. Joyce was employed with Lake Forest Health and Fitness Center for more than 11 years, Fansteel in North Chicago and Cherry Electric in Waukegan. She enjoyed spending time Goodwill shopping and crocheting beautiful blankets for everyone in the family. Joyce loved her trips back home to AL to visit her loved ones. She was ‘Mom’ to many and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her children, Robert (Teresa) Besnah, Jr. and Linda (James) Copen both of Zion, IL; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Leamon Hughes; husband, Robert Besnah Sr.; son, Randy (Becky) Parrish; daughter, Vicki Johnson; siblings, Opal (Carl) Gilbert of Russellville, AL, Louise Hughes and Leon (Lorraine) Hughes. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday, August 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
